Amendment to Sec. 4-3-33 regarding Building & Use Taxes

USE TAX and AFFORDABLE HOUSING FEES will now be collected at time of Building Permit submission at Town Hall. 

On April 24, 2023, the Town of Grand Lake Board of Trustees approved Ordinance 05-2023 AMENDING SECTION 4-333 OF THE GRAND LAKE MUNICIPAL CODE REGARDING BUILDING AND USE TAX. 

Previously, per the Town code, the collection of construction use tax was deferred until after ninety (90) days from the time the Town or its authorized representative had issued the Certificate of Occupancy or equivalent document signifying final inspection for the work done under the building permit. During the Town's annual audit in Spring 2023, our auditor suggested that we amend the code to deposit the funds directly into our General Fund rather than deferring it. Also previously, this tax had been collected by the County on the Town's behalf. It will now be collected directly by the Town of Grand Lake.
